A patched gang member on the run from police has been spotted hitchhiking in Northland.
Police issued a warrant for the arrest of Jaydean Hura last month in relation to making methamphetamine for a multi-million-dollar drug operation based in rural Northland. The 35-year-old patched member of the Headhunters gang is being sought after Operation Easter which culminated in the arrest of gang members and associates in Northland last December.
About 2pm yesterday police had reports of Hura being spotted at the intersection of Waimate North Rd and State Highway 1. It appeared he was hitchhiking and heading south. When police arrived he couldn't be found.
Northland police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said Hura had strong links in Northland and any sightings should be immediately reported to police.
Last December police raided a methamphetamine lab at a property in Taipuha Rd at Waiotira, between Whangarei and Paparoa, resulting in 14 arrests. No one was found at the house but police believe at least $3 million of methamphetamine had been "cooked" there.
