Jessie Heke-Gray, 32, was wanted by police when he left his approved address in Otara in late September which was in breach of his release conditions.

A wanted man who police claim has been meeting up with women for dates through social media sites and mobile phone apps gave himself up today when armed police surrounded a Northland property.

Jessie Heke-Gray, 32, was wanted by police when he left his approved address in Otara in late September which was in breach of his release conditions.

Today, after receiving information, police surrounded a house in Waipu, south of Whangarei, about midday.

Detective Sergeant Dave Hamilton said the Armed Offenders Squad along with other police staff went to a house in an area know as The Braigh and a male in the house surrendered without incident.

Hamilton said Heke-Gray was to be held in custody before appearing in the Whangarei District Court tomorrow on a recall warrant.

The arrest came after police went to a house in Ruakaka on Saturday and discovered a silver-coloured car that was linked to Heke-Gray.

"That vehicle has been uplifted and secured for evidence," Hamilton said.

A a number of streets were blocked off while police carried out their search which Hamilton said may have been inconvenient for residents and he thanked locals for their co-operation.

Police alerted the public that Heke-Gray was in Northland last Tuesday after they believed he had travelled to Northland.

Police allege Heke-Gray was active on the internet and has been meeting up with women for dates through social media sites and mobile phone apps.
