Voting is under way in a byelection for New Zealand's northernmost community board.
The North Cape seat on the Te Hiku Community Board was left vacant by the death of board member and community stalwart Murray Rae in March.
Voting documents were sent to 1801 electors in the North Cape subdivision on June 10, with 365 votes received as of Wednesday morning. Postal voting closes at noon on July 2.
Mayor John Carter urged people in the subdivision to exercise their democratic rights.
"Whoever wins a seat on the board needs to know their community is behind them and they are not simply there by default."
