The launch of the Northland Emergency Services Trust helicopter appeal reached great heights with $3000 raised on Wednesday.
About 100 former patients, current pilots, nurses and supporters were also treated to a screening of a new documentary about the rescue service called Northland's angels of the skies.
The DVD is hosted by television news reader Simon Dallow and covers the history of the service in Northland and patients recount their live-saving experiences.
Whangarei-based Channel North compiled the compelling footage over a two-year period and the DVD is for sale for $20 during the annual appeal.
