State Highway One in Northland was blocked because of two serious crashes.

Two serious crashes have blocked different sections of State Highway One in Northland.

A serious crash involving a car and a truck at the intersection of SH1 and Prescott Rd in Ruakaka trapped and seriously injured a person about 2pm yesterday.

The crash blocked the road.

Police northern communications spokesman Inspector Peter Raynes said another person involved in the crash was in a moderate but stable condition. The northbound lane of SH1 was partially blocked and detours were in place. St John ambulance, police and fire crews were in attendance.

The road was opened before the rush hour kicked in at 4.30pm.

Shortly after the crash near Prescott Rd, a car and camper van collided on SH1 near Oruawharo Rd, north of Te Hana.

A spokesman for the Fire Service said one person was trapped and fire units worked to free them.

The crash blocked the southbound side of the road and motorists were advised to delay their journey or consider using alternative routes.
