A motorbike rider and pillion passenger are recovering in Whangarei Hospital after crashing near Okaihau on Sunday evening.
Acting Senior Sergeant Glenn Taplin said the rider lost control on a moderate right-hand bend on State Highway 1, near the intersection with Puketi Rd, about 6.30pm. Both rider and passenger were catapulted from the bike and suffered serious injuries.
Police, St John Ambulance and the Okaihau Fire Brigade responded.
The pair, who are believed to be from Taupo, were flown to Whangarei by the Northland Electricity Rescue Helicopter.
Mr Taplin said both were in a stable condition in hospital yesterday.
