Two other people are believed to have been injured when a Northland gang member was shot and killed.
As a team of police continued to investigate the murder of John Henry Harris it has been revealed two others received minor injuries during the fatal shooting but police were not commenting on how the injuries occurred or what they were.
Mr Harris, a patched Tribesmen member, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest on Tuesday after he was driven by two men to the St John ambulance station on Western Hills Dr. He was loaded into an ambulance but died at the station about 6.40am.
Head of the investigation Detective Inspector Kevin Burke said police had spoken to several people but no arrests had been made at edition time yesterday.
A tangi for Mr Harris, also known as John Boy, will take place tomorrow and police are expecting a large number of gang members from across the North Island to attend.
Mr Harris was taken from a Whangarei funeral home to his homestead on Harris Rd in Rahiri, accompanied by gang members travelling in cars and bikes on Wednesday night. The father of two's tangi would be at Piki Te Aroha Marae before being buried at Hutoia Urupa at Rahiri, 13km northwest of Okaihau.
Police yesterday released security camera pictures of two vehicles believed to be involved in the incident.
The first was a red 2007 Holden Commodore, registration JCS248, that police believe was towed from an address on Hassard St in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Mr Burke said the Commodore was found at Mower Rd and was inspected by forensic experts as part of a three-day examination of the property north of Whangarei at Piano Hill.
The second vehicle of interest was a black 2011 Holden Commodore, registration FZC162. It was discovered on fire at Lovell Rd, in Ruatangata just after noon on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are seeking any sightings by the public of these two vehicles in the Whangarei area in the days before Tuesday," Mr Burke said.
"We are receiving a number of calls from members of the public and this has assisted police greatly. We continue to thank our community for their ongoing support."
He renewed a call for anyone who may have seen a group of men gathered in the Whangarei or Kamo areas in the early hours of Tuesday morning to contact Whangarei Police.
Meanwhile, another investigation team continue to work on the murder of 25-year-old Moses Mahanga, a Head Hunters gang member, who died of a gunshot wound while in a parked car in Otangarei on October 4.
Three additional investigators who have been helping Northland detectives will finish tomorrow.
However, six extra investigators will be arriving next Tuesday .
