People disposing of rubbish in rural Whangarei should take note of reduced transfer station hours starting today.
Whangarei District Council has toyed with opening hours at its eight rural transfer stations over the last year, finally settling in February on a schedule it hoped would strike the balance between ratepayer convenience and savings of $170,000 a year.
Previously, the transfer stations experienced long periods of under-use, prompting the council to cut hours.
Hours were the same year-round at Ruatangata, Tauraroa and Kokopu transfer stations.
The council also issued another rubbish reminder after several complaints about plastic items scattered along the roadside. This was attributed to overloaded kerbside recycling bins.
