Soft toys placed on top of burning firewood filled a Whangarei house with smoke.

Firefighters were called to a house on Oakland Ave in Woodhill about 5pm yesterday after its occupants managed to extinguish the flames.

Whangarei fire brigade senior station officer Paul Ballantine said no damage was done except that the house was filled with smoke and had to be ventilated.
