It started from small beginnings, but now Hikurangi Golf Club's Daffodil Day fundraising tournament has a waiting list after raising more than $124,000 for the cancer charity in nine years.
Yesterday, 144 golfers took to the course for the 10th event and club president Bruce Barron said he expected another $15,000-plus to be raised to add to the $124,075 collected in the first nine years.
"That's a pretty decent amount," Mr Barron said.
"It started fairly small, but now it's really big and we have a waiting list. [It started] when somebody suggested we have a fundraising event and a member's wife had cancer so we thought this would be a great cause ... and the business community have really come on board to sponsor the event and we get amazing support from golfers and the wider community."
One of the unique aspects of the tournament was a contest to hit a golf ball into a dinghy tethered to the middle of the lake below the eighth tee, which was always popular.
