Loyalty to your team only goes so far, especially if a trip to the National Rugby League grand final in Sydney is on the line.
When it comes to rugby league tipping, they don't come much better than Whangarei couple Doug and Gayla Andrews, but they had to put their support of the NZ Warriors on the backburner to win the Northern Advocate's tipping competition.
It almost caused an argument, but their prowess at picking the game has paid off big time - they have won a luxury trip to the grand final on September 30, with five-star accommodation and pre and post-match entertainment hosted by Monty Betham.
The Andrews have entered the competition for two seasons and reckon they won this year because Gayla overruled Doug in the tipping during the last two weeks. Every week punters sent in predictions for each NRL game.
Doug had been in front from the first few weeks, but the gap between first and second place shrank rapidly in the last weeks with Alan O'Connor from Brewer's World coming a close second and Harry Clyde from the WOF Centre coming in third place.
