Three men from one family were among four who have appeared in Kaikohe District Court charged with kidnapping with intent to hold for ransom.
The four men - David Warren, Arthur Kire, Hori Kire and Cairo Kire - were arrested, with assistance from the armed offenders squad, about 9.20pm Tuesday night after allegedly kidnapping a man from his home address in Kaikohe about 5am that morning.
None of the men entered pleas and all were remanded in custody, to appear in Kaikohe District Court again on June 14. At least three of the men are believed to be from Waima, west of Kaikohe.
Police said it is understood the victim and the offenders were known to each other and said the victim was found uninjured and was returned to his family.
Police said investigations are continuing, however no further comment could be made as the matter was before the court.
