Who do you call when a tow truck is in trouble? Answer: a bigger truck.
That was the scenario on Inlet Rd, Kerikeri, on Sunday, after a car left the road and ended up at the bottom of a sheer 20-metre bank with its nose in the swollen river below, saved from total immersion only by a small tree.
Towie Tony Taylor decided that the job of getting the car back up the bank was too much for his truck, so called on a bigger one from Kerikeri, which took over after Mr Taylor had pulled the car to the base of the wall below the road.
Total Recoveries then took over, but its truck slipped and tipped over when the side of the road gave way, the car ending up back down the bank. No one was hurt, although bystanders were relieved to see the tow truck driver emerge from the scrub. A bigger Hiab was then called for, to get the tow truck on its wheels and the car back on the road. Both jobs were finally accomplished.
How the car got there in the first place was not clear.
