A group of Northland youth are being thanked for their hard work with a chance to get glammed up and head to the Vodafone Music Awards.

Eight youth aged between 15 and 17 and two supervisors from the Whangarei Youth Space were given free tickets by Vodafone to head to the red carpet event tonight.

Whangarei youth worker, Frana Milina, said they selected youth who had constantly contributed to the Whangarei Youth Space through their hard work.

"We chose youth who were an integral part of the floor to show we appreciate what they did. But a lot of them are musicians and do sing," Ms Milina said.

The group will be travelling by bus to to Auckland's Vector Arena.

Ms Milina said she had asked the group to be at the Whangarei Youth Space an hour before leaving time so they could get glammed up.

"I wanted to give them the chance to get all dressed up and do their make-up, to make it a really special night for them."

Some of the artists nominated for different categories in this year's round of awards include Six60, Broods, Anika Moa, Stan Walker and Avalanche City.

"The youth are over the moon. They're so excited," said Ms Milina.
