The Kaitaia teen with just weeks to live was "in tears" when she found out tonight that her final wish would be granted.
Georgia Buckingham, 16, will get to Skype one of her favourite bands Five Seconds of Summer.
Her mother Jo Buckingham said her daughter was "in tears" when she found out.
Georgia bought tickets to see the Australian band in Sydney in October, but was recently told her cancer had returned and she had a few weeks to live.
She was diagnosed late 2014 with acute myeloid leukaemia, went into remission for a year, then had the cancer return. She cannot have high dose chemotherapy treatments as she recently had a bone marrow transplant.
Buckingham said Georgia now had about two weeks left to live, according to doctors.
"We had this trip booked, probably a year ago," she said. "She got her tickets, we had been planning to go there on the 5th of October. They [the doctors] have just said no, even if she's still alive on that date, she will be extremely ill."
The band is currently touring America, but Georgia's friends started the hashtag ##5SOSNoticeGeorgia to get her noticed.
Buckingham said they had hoped the band would acknowledge Georgia in some way if they saw the hashtag. Georgia will also get to Skype with another Australian singer Troye Sivan.
Georgia met the band last year through Make a Wish.
She also loves other bands 21 Pilots and Panic! At The Disco.
Georgia and her family will be travelling to Sydney next week for a holiday before she becomes too sick.
"There's nothing we can do, unfortunately. It's just this cancer, obviously it's just a killer."
A Givealittle page created by Georgia's older sister, Hayley O'Connor, so they can enjoy the rest of the time they have with her, has raised more than $18,500 since it was started in June.
"Georgia is very special to us all, she always puts a smile on our faces, so I can only hope we can do the same for [her] as we work through the next stage in this journey together," O'Connor wrote on the page.
She wrote about their plans for next week's trip to Sydney, saying they had some surprises and shopping in store.
"We can't wait to spend a few days together making lifetime memories."
