A teenager who allegedly burgled a Whangarei home and left his driver's licence in the house next to a smashed stereo has made an appearance in court.
Tyson Harris, 19, appeared in the Kaikohe District Court yesterday on a charge of burglary. He entered no plea and was released on bail to make another appearance in the same court on December 9. Harris was arrested following the burglary of a house in Onerahi on November 8.
Homeowner and mother of two Andrea Jenkins told the Northern Advocate her home had been ransacked early on a Sunday morning and a huge number of items taken. All the food from the fridge and freezer was also stolen in the raid along with the food for her pet turtle. Her children's clothes and toys were taken.
Her brother, who also lived with her family, tracked the alleged thieves to a nearby home and discovered them eating food stolen from their fridge and cupboards. A driver's licence was found at the house along with a cap on the driveway.
