A Northlander who spent more than two months on the run from police has been nabbed at a Bay of Islands hideout.
Daniel Donnelly Wason, 24, was being questioned on October 7 about a burglary and assault on Opua's English Bay Rd when he fled on foot into bush and rugged farmland near Oromahoe.
His escape sparked a major search by armed officers and a sniffer dog because at that stage police were unsure of the location of a shotgun taken in the burglary.
The gun was found but Wason himself avoided capture. The search was called off later that day.
Police searched addresses in Whangarei and as far away as Ohakune after tip-offs from the public.
