Christmas in Bream Bay would not quite be the same without the sight of surfers in fancy dress taking to the waves off Waipu.
Sunday heralded the festive season when the Bream Bay Sliders longboard surfing club held its annual Christmas party at Waipu Cove.
The club's 30 members take the opportunity to dress up at their annual do and enjoy a pre-Christmas lunch on the beach with family and friends.
Club spokeswoman Noeline Hall said Sunday's event had been great fun and allowed the surfers to get creative.
"We've been doing this for nine years and it's just a fantastic day. It's not competitive, but about having fun. The club provides a ham and everybody brings salads and food for a shared lunch. It was awesome," Ms Hall said.
