Storytelling workshop in Hokianga

A free "Storytelling for Screen" workshop is coming to the Hokianga early next month.

A not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the craft and culture of storytelling for the screen is hoping to nurture Northland's local talent with a one-day workshop.

Script to Screen will bring the free workshop, Storytelling for Screen, to the Hokianga in early February.

Eloise Veber, Script to Screen community programme manager, said the workshop, headed by experienced writer and director Michael Bennett, will focus on short film, short documentary and web series formats as well as looking at how to make a project on a low budget.

"It's looking at how you can tell a story by moving away from the conventional mediums and asking how you can use online."

Ms Veber said the group chose to go to Hokianga because of the local talent.

"We know a lot of writers move there and there are a lot of youth who have good ideas. It's a beautiful place and its got a close community vibe."

The workshop is aimed at all levels, from those with screen writing and film making experience, to passionate story tellers aged 15 and over.

-The free workshop will take place on February 1, from 9am to 5pm, with Waka Kiriata screening at 4pm at Northtec Rawene Campus, Nimmo St, Hokianga.
