One person has been airlifted to hospital in serious condition following a car crash involving a stolen car in Northland.
The two cars collided at about 5.20am today outside the phosphate factory near Kaiwaka.
Whangarei Police acting senior sergeant Darren Sullivan said the driver of one vehicle was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the stolen car involved, which is believed to have been taken from Whangarei last night, abandoned the vehicle.
The police Serious Crash Unit were at the scene investigating.
As of 8.20am the Southbound lane was blocked and traffic was being controlled using stop-go signs.
