Talk about putting the pressure on - a two tonne steamroller will be used to chug over huge blocks to make mural sized art prints at Northland's first Printapalooza tomorrow.
The dedicated Te Kowhai Print Trust, housed in Whangarei's Quarry Arts Centre, couldn't get hold of a real, fire breathing steamroller and have to make do with a more modern machine for their heavy duty creative process. They are promising "tonnes of fun".
Te Kowhai will produce one large scale collaborative woodcut. The carving, which has taken several weeks, will be finished in the morning of Printapalooza and printed in the afternoon. As well as notable Northland artists using paper or canvas to print their creations, anyone is welcome to bring along their own wood or linocuts to get inked up and printed, .
"This interactive community art project represents an exciting new initiative in public arts events in our city," says Te Kowhai Print Trust Manager Jasmine Horton.
"There will be a printer printing T-shirts with silk screen and woodcut, just bring your own T-shirt and pay a small fee for your very own hand-printed T-shirt. "
