After 29 days of fasting during the month of Ramadhan, about 100 Muslims in Northland rejoiced in the festival of Eid on Wednesday. Celebrations began with a prayer about half an hour after sunrise, before they invited people to their homes to indulge in sweets and savouries prepared especially for the occasion.
The preparation involved countless hours of cooking leading up to the big day. This year was probably the first time the Eid festival was celebrated on the same day throughout the world.
Among those out celebrating and capturing the occasion on camera was Northern Advocate reporter Imran Ali.
