There are no short-term plans to fully light the Hatea Loop at night. However, plenty of Northern Advocate Facebook followers would love to see it happen ... now. Here are a few of their comments.

Sharon Mcleod

Can't they use solar lights. No power required.

Renae Wickens

One word ... solar.

Vent the poles.

A solar-lit track with LED lighting, would look great. You could even have different-coloured lights, to make the place more inviting at night.

Wayne Ballantine
Put about 10-foot poles to release the methane and light it and use that for lighting.

William Morunga

Good on you if you want to walk or run at night. But that's your choice no point racking up more bills from power and maintenance on the council just so a handful of people can run through dark during winter. Here is a tip, run at 6.30am when the sun is up.

Why don't they use solar lights. Anything is better than nothing, it's so dark by the bmx track.

Vicki Jo

Why don't we all buy one solar light each and put them by the track ourselves? Why wait for council?

Janelle Bowness

I think cameras and lights should be installed.

Definitely for safety.

Colours lots of colours for Christmas and games at the park plus cameras.

Rachel Drysdale

Yesss ... went the other night and the path to the town basin is fine but way too dark and dodgy to go right round Pohe Island part of the loop unfortunately.

Kristy Kahu

Definitely. It'll make it safer too, for those hardy enough to exercise at night.

Lance McDonald Annette McDonald

Yeah, plse.

Yes to lights - perhaps solar powered?

Jenn Overton

Yes please, desperately. It's far too dangerous to do on your own when it's dark.

Yes please and pop-up cafes.

Herbert Shirlz

Don't cars have lights. If people want to run or walk at night tell them to get a torch or head lamp.

Steve and Kathy Elliott

While that would be a great help, there is always a cost and with rates due to increase substantially over coming years, I don't think that lights on the track will be high up on the priority list.

Why not just put a head light on your head and walk. We did that with our cycling.

Don Ross

Yes put in lights and do away with the stupid Hunterwaaser.

Donna Ashby

At whose cost?

Yes it is great to see all sorts exercising and enjoying. Let's not ... worry of cost but of the health and social benefits exercise brings. Those who exercise regularly are less likely to cost other services.
