A needy family halfway around the world will be given essential survival tools thanks to six Whangarei teenagers.
The teenagers make up a group called Interact, which is a junior division of Rotary, and fundraised $1500 for a ShelterBox. It includes a tent, water purifier, gas cooker and even crayons for kids.
ShelterBox is an international charity that provides emergency shelter and vital supplies to communities around the world that have been ravaged by natural disaster or a humanitarian crisis.
Jess Swanepoel, 18, said she felt it was an excellent cause to have fundraised for. "It is pretty much a survival box that is sent out to families in need," she said.
Laura Murray, 16, said it was "really humbling" to be able to help people, especially at their worst moments.
