Drivers using the Brynderwyn Hills on Sunday night/Monday morning should allow plenty of extra time for their journey as State Highway 1 over the range will be closed for safety and maintenance work.
SH1 over the Brynderwyns will be closed in both directions from 7pm Sunday until 6am Monday to allow the work to be carried out safely and efficiently, New Zealand Transport Agency said.
NZTA contractors will be resurfacing the highway on the southern side of the Brynderwyns to ensure a safer and smoother road, as well as making the highway more hard-wearing and resilient.
Southbound traffic will be diverted through Waipu and Mangawhai, while northbound traffic will be diverted through Paparoa/Oakleigh. The work will not go ahead if weather conditions are not suitable.
