State Highway One in a remote part of the Far North will be down to one lane over the next four weeks while resurfacing work is done.
The NZ Transport Agency has advised motorists to allow extra time for journeys as work begins to improve the road surface between the bridges at Waihopo, north of Houhora - about halfway between Kaitaia and Cape Reinga.
The agency will spend the next four weeks removing bumps and smoothing out the surface for vehicles entering and exiting the bridges, as well as upgrading the road surface between the bridges.
A single lane will be closed to traffic throughout the work, which may cause some delays.
The agency has apologised for any inconvenience.
Motorists should check the Transport Agency's website, www.nzta.govt.nz for the latest highway information or sign up to www.onthemove.govt.nz for up-to-date information on what is happening on the route you plan to travel.
