Severe gales and heavy rainfall are expected to lash Northland today and tomorrow.
MetService has issued a weather warning for Northland and parts of the South Island with a potential for localised flooding, slips and hazardous driving conditions.
In Northland, rain is likely to become heavy at times from around noon today but ease tomorrow morning.
Localised downpours are possible, with rainfall rates of about 30mm per hour.
