A Whangarei man caught drink-driving for a seventh time has been spared jail partly because of the 18 years since his last conviction.
Peter Royston FOYLE, 56, machine operator, appeared in Whangarei District Court for sentence on a charge or driving with excess breath alcohol for a third or subsequent time after he was stopped on Te Raupongo Rd, at 12.55am on December 22, last year.
The police summary of facts said Foyle was stopped at a roadside checkpoint and a test showed he had a level of 821 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath, more than double the 400mcg limit.
He had six previous conviction for drink driving, with the last one in September 1994.
Foyle was sentenced to six months' community detention, 100 hours' community work, 12 months' supervision and disqualified from driving for 12 months and one day for his seventh drink driving conviction.
