They trailed 6-16 at the break but were hot on attack under the posts at the beginning of the second spell only to receive a double blow when referee Kyle Collins seemingly missed a ruck infringement and the turned-over ball was then carried 90m in the other direction with Hora Hora's Doug Te Puni jnr finishing off a spectacular breakaway try.
That took the score out to 23-6. Wellsford were forced to play catch-up after that and that only gave Hora Hora more scoring options with tries to Mark Bennett and another length-of-the-field effort by Jared Wendt finishing off the game.
It was a compelling performance from the club that lost only once in the 20 competition matches they played this season.
Hora Hora's forwards were their usual force in the match but it was the inside backs, Logan Wendt, Ume Fosita and Vili Tahitua, who sparked most of the team's attacking chances throughout the match, with the exception of Bennett's solo effort.
Wendt's distribution combined with Fosita's decision making and Tahitua's gap running provided the breaks that gave their outside backs the opportunity to finish off.
Wellsford fullback Matt Wright, who was one of his side's best on the day, said Hora Hora deserved their victory on Saturday.
"They were the form team in the competition all year and they had quality all over the park and that's hard to combat. You can shut down a couple of guys but then the ball goes to another guy that's another level above us and he makes you pay. So well done, Hora Hora, but we'll be back next year. "
In the first match of the day Kamo rallied late to beat the Western Sharks 20-19 to take the Southern Districts Premier Reserve title for 2014, inspired by a second-half try to captain Tom Herman.
In the Southern Districts Division Two final Mangakahia delighted their fans by beating Tomarata 19-17 to win their first title in a generation after trailing 9-10 at the break.
Nobody could recall the last time the club had won the title but since their relegation from the premier grade in 1990, the club has reached the final only twice - losing both times.
The winning team's captain Brent Cates said his side had fought for redemption in the final. "We lost to these guys (Tomarata) in the first round and then we drew the second match so this was redemption for us," he said.
"The boys are keen for the promotion-relegation battle. We realise it will be a big step up but we're ready for it but for now we'll celebrate this win and enjoy it with our supporters and sponsors, who were here in force - we couldn't have done it without them," he said.
