Hundreds of Northlanders are literally spilling blood this week for a cause, with the NZ Blood Service in Whangarei to collect hundreds of litres of the vital, life-saving liquid.
Yesterday Michelle Green took daughter Hannah, 5, along when she went to give blood at Forum North and couldn't resist the chance for a selfie while hooked up to the machine extracting the blood.
The Blood Service will be collecting at two venues in Whangarei, in order to collect about 500 units of the "red gold" that is vital to hospital services.
The service started collecting at Forum North on Monday and will be there again today between noon and 6pm.
The collectors will then be at the Northland Cricket Association indoor centre, Okara Drive, tomorrow between noon and 6pm and on Friday from 9am to 1pm. One donation can be used to treat different types of patients, for example, accident and burns victims, patients having surgery, leukaemia victims, and transplant patients.
