People who are enthusiastic about the environment and enjoy local events can join CBEC EcoSolutions' Green Team of trained volunteers who act as recycling ambassadors at Waitangi Treading Grounds on the nation's big day.
Literally tonnes of waste is created at local eventsand recycling ambassadors can take the credit for diverting much of it from landfill.
Being a recycling ambassador is a chance to meet like-minded people while doing something good for the community and the environment CBEC EcoSolutions project manager Monique Portegys said.
"Often the work we do at events depends on our volunteers. Without them we couldn't make recycling at events a success. We look after them, feed them, provide transport and try to make sure they have a good time."
Being a volunteer is also a chance to learn more about sustainability and waste minimisation and then educate others as well as help raise awareness about the issues, Ms Portegys said.
CBEC EcoSolutions manage the waste and recycling operations at the celebrations at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds on February 6.
The Waitangi Trust works to run the event along zero waste principals which means all vendors must use food and drink packaging that is compostable.
