Two men who used a stolen car to ramraid a liquor store and steal alcohol have pleaded guilty.
The main offender, Marcus Rhind, was sent to prison for three years and two months and his accomplice, Jordan Tepana, was ordered to perform 200 hours community work instead of a custodial sentence because he was led astray.
Both admitted one charge of unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle and two of burglary. Rhind was sentenced in the Kaitaia District Court in March while Tepana appeared in the Whangarei District Court this week.
Tepana was a passenger in a Nissan vehicle driven by Rhind in Kaitaia on the morning of January 14 this year. They reversed the car into a roller door which led to a store room of Liquor King, causing the door to cave in. Security arrived and both fled the scene.
About two hours later, they had a second go at the roller door and managed to gain access and steal 10 bottles of alcohol.
