Police investigating a crash that killed a Whangārei mother and daughter are calling on people who may have seen two cars travelling close together shortly before the fatal crash.
The single-vehicle crash on Whangārei Heads Rd was reported to police at 6.46pm on February 17. A car with four people in it left the road on a moderate bend and slammed into a tree.
Sorine Hanham, 30, died shortly after the crash and her daughter, back seat passenger Niquisher Sanders, 7, died the next day in Auckland's Starship Hospital.
Inspector Wayne Ewers said the male driver remained in Whangārei Hospital.
As part of the investigation Ewers said police were calling on anyone who had seen two cars traveling close together towards Whangārei from Parua Bay to come forward. He said the time frame was between 6.30pm and 7pm on the night of the crash.
