A Northland Regional Council worker who had bleach thrown into his eyes in a vicious highway attack was on his way to give evidence in a court hearing in Whangarei, which had to be postponed.
The 45-year-old from Kerikeri pulled over on a gravel layby at the corner of State Highway 10 and Oromahoe Rd, after the car behind him repeatedly flashed its lights.
Police yesterday renewed calls for the public to come forward with information. Detective Constable Bill Dawson of Kerikeri CIB said the case had always been open and was being treated with priority, although police currently had no leads. "We're following up every avenue of investigation as it comes up. It's a serious case for us, that's why we've given it so much attention in the media."
He said police were keen to hear from the public and that any bit of information would be useful.
A day after the attack, police set up a checkpoint in the Far North and handed out flyers to passing motorists, seeking their help.
