Two fleeing drivers led police on separate chases through Whangarei within an hour of each other.
The first chase happened in the Salmon Rd area in Mata about 3pm yesterday while the second pursuit led police through areas surrounding Rewa Rewa Rd in Raumanga at 4pm.
Police northern communications Inspector Barry Smalley said both chases were abandoned but police continued to search for the vehicle involved in the first pursuit.
"There were two fleeing drivers. One [search] was abandoned as police lost sight of the vehicle and the other is currently being searched for by local units."
It is not known what speeds were reached by the fleeing vehicles, although police usually abandon pursuits when high speeds endanger the public. As of edition time late yesterday, no arrests had been made.
