Police have caught a fugitive who slipped off his electronic monitoring bracelet.

Police have caught a fugitive who slipped off his electronic monitoring bracelet.

A Northland man who police say chopped off his electronic bail anklet gave officers the slip after a short car chase through Dargaville streets on Wednesday.

However, his freedom was short-lived as officers caught up with him after another chase, this time on foot on Thursday.

Detective Shaun House said the Dargaville man allegedly removed his electronic monitoring device last Saturday and was spotted in a vehicle on Wednesday.

The car failed to stop when signalled on Finlayson Park Ave. When the vehicle did stop people in the car jumped out and then the man, 25, is believed to have got in the driver's seat.

A four-minute pursuit around Dargaville ended when the car was dumped.

He was arrested and faces charges of breaching bail, driving while disqualified, failing to stop and wilful damage.
