Police called to minor crash on SH1 south of Whangārei

A police officer at the scene of a car accident on SH1, near Toetoe Rd, south of Whangārei, this afternoon.

Police have been called to a crash just south of Whangārei.

One car was involved and has ended up off State Highway One in a ditch near Toetoe Rd.

The crash happened about 12.30pm and has not blocked the Highway and traffic is flowing in both directions. A dog handler was also called to the scene.

No further details were available at this stage.

Meanwhile, SH1 is closed over the Brynderwyn Hills after a petrol tanker and car collided on the south side of the hills this morning.

The tanker is disabled and its fuel has to be removed before it can be shifted off the road and NZTA said this is expected to take until about 5pm this afternoon.

There are detours in place.
