A group of budding Far North entrepreneurs is hoping to turn a waste product into luxury soap.
The Kerikeri High School 16-year-olds, who go by the name Green Summit, are taking part in this year's Young Enterprise Scheme in which students across Northland create a product, set up a real company, and make a real profit or loss.
Green Summit finance manager Ryan Lambert said the group came up with an idea for a product after looking into things that were being wasted in the Kerikeri area.
It struck them that significant quantities of kiwifruit were bruised or misshapen so could not be sold as food.
Communications manager Kaylee Harris said they had researched products already available and come up with a plan to turn reject fruit into kiwifruit soap. With its vitamin A content, kiwifruit lent itself well to a skin product.
