The Whangarei faction of the internationally-run parkrun series reached its first birthday and celebrated with a run, balloons and some cake.
Event director Jim Kettlewell said the anniversary was a great success.
"We had 60 entrants on the day. Everyone really enjoyed the occasion and particularly the balloons over the finish line," he said.
"We had a brilliant cake made with a bridge constructed on it, which is reminiscent of the bridge our runners and walkers cross during the run.
"We run every Saturday, regardless of rain, hail and shine."
