Paralympics: Cameron Leslie sets new world record time in Germany

Cameron Leslie set a world record swimming time of 2:25.77 in the Men's SM4 150m Individual Medley at the IDM German Open.

Cameron Leslie has added to his ideal preparation for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Competing at the IDM German Open, Leslie set a world record swimming a time of 2:25.77 in the Men's SM4 150m Individual Medley.

This broke his own previous record of 2:25.98 set at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Leslie is known for his knack for world record breaking performances, evident at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympic Games.

He will now be ranked number one in the world in the Men's SM4 150m Individual Medley event.

Leslie will be thrilled with his performance following a disappointing silver medal and time of 2:26.55 in this event at last year's IPC Swimming World Championships.

Paralympics New Zealand High Performance Director Malcom Humm said he was thrilled with Leslie's performance in the pool.

"Having finished second in this event at the World Championships last year, he has been determined to retain his number one world ranking and this has been evident in the way he has been training," he said.

Paralympics New Zealand expects the team to be between 25 and 35 Para-Athletes for the Rio Games.
