The Kamo community got into the Christmas spirit with the biggest turn-out to the annual parade in four years.

Organiser Colin Twyman said the streets were packed to watch the parade, which included 33 floats and groups such as St John, roller derby players, marching girls, gymnasts, and - of course - Santa himself.

"This year was much bigger than the last couple of years," he said.

"The crowd was three to four deep."

The winning float was World War I 'Christmas in the trenches' theme - in time for WWI 100 year commemorations - by the Allen family.

"That was a stand-out float," Mr Twyman said.

Second place went to the Rock N Roll Live float.

This year's parade culminated in a Kommunity Karnival at Kamo High School.
