"They reckon Friday would be really hot, then temperatures will come down a bit. I don't know how they [the tennis players] play. It's difficult to even sit and watch, let alone play."
Ms Taylor said she did not know what to expect in terms of temperatures across the ditch.
"I hope we won't get cooked but we hope to make the best of our time."
She loves tennis and went to the Heineken Cup in Auckland last weekend. The women were expected to fly out last night and have bought tickets for tomorrow and Tuesday's matches in the Australian Open.
Meanwhile, Paihia resident Wayne Henderson yesterday completed his bike ride from Geelong to Adelaide for the Herbalife Family Foundation, to raise money for underprivileged children.
He completed 95.2km yesterday.
"Boy, we did that tough, temp way over 44C on my GPS, wind in our face, and it was not a cool breeze, think I have found the toughest thing I've ever done," he wrote on his Facebook page.
Former Kaeo resident Jacinta Anderson, now living on an estate in Melbourne, said she had been trying to enrol her son in school otherwise she would be in New Zealand at this time.
"It's really stinking hot. Everyone's cramming into malls and cinemas to get some cool air. Outside it's constantly windy, with hot air," she said.
Temperatures where she lives clocked 44C mid-afternoon yesterday but the forecast for today was for the mercury to dip down to the 20Cs.
Ms Anderson said since she first moved to Melbourne eight years ago only once had the temperature hit 44C.
