I got the same buzz from watching Kamo Intermediate School, one of only two public schools I think, win a thrilling pool match at a national cricket tournament.
Both moments invoked the desire to grab the person next to me and hug them. Extraordinary, especially as I am not what you would call a "hugger".
This year, the annual Northern Advocate People's Choice Award for sport focuses on moments from Rio.
We have included Olympic and Paralympic athletes or swimmers. Blair Tuke is there, of course, for his gold medal in the 49er sailing class with honorary Northlander Peter Burling.
Chris Sharp (another Kerikeri sailor!) must be considered one of the unluckiest Paralympic team members in Rio.
He and sailing partners, Richard Dodson and Andrew May, finished fourth after a cruel count back in the 3-Person Keelboat (Sonar) class.
They didn't win a medal but Northland hockey stars Stacey Michelsen and Brooke Neal were key players in the 4-2 ousting of Australia from the Olympics.
From Dargaville, Emma Foy, competing as a tandem pair with her pilot, Laura Thompson, brought home a silver in the women's B 3000m Individual Pursuit and a bronze in the Women's Road Race B.
And, of course, Whangarei's Cameron Leslie won gold and smashed his world record in the 150m individual medley.
So, goosebumps from any of those?
