A person has been taken to Kaitaia Hospital after a two-car crash just south of Pamapuria.
The St John Northern Region communications manager Robbie Walker said emergency services were called at 10.25am yesterday and an ambulance was sent to the scene on State Highway 1. Mr Walker said both people injured were initially assessed as having minor injuries but one deteriorated to being in moderate condition and was taken to Kaitaia Hospital.
Two appliances from the Kaitaia Fire Service also attended and assisted by diverting traffic around the worst of the damaged cars, a brown Honda.
