Time and tide will tell how much oil the piers and piles of Northport are holding on to but the clean-up team is confident it has mopped up most of Tuesday's large spill.
Yesterday a 40-strong team made good progress cleaning up the remnants of several tonnes of oil spilled the day before into Whangarei Harbour from a ship tied up at Northport.
Further "blobs" of oil were found up to 300m west of the Marsden Cove Marina entrance yesterday, said Northland's Deputy Harbourmaster Chidambaram Surendran.
Clean-up crews had been mobilised again in the morning to take care of any "re-oiling" - patches that collected after the slick's initial containment and removal.
"That's not unusual with a spill like this and is largely to ensure any remains of the oil which had not been collected or was missed, including any which had come ashore in the Marsden Cove area, do not cause further issues," Mr Surendran said.
