Northland's young surfers battled blustery northerly winds at the second event of Northland junior club surfing series on Sunday at Forestry Beach, Mangawhai.

Strong winds and a building 1m-2m swell greeted about 40 young surfers competing in the event. Initially the contest briefing was held at Mangawhai Heads but with the deteriorating weather conditions, it was decided to shift the event to the shelter of Forestry Beach to the south of Te Arai. Surfers taking part were representing various Northland Board Riders Club including, and Mangawhai Junior Surfers.
