Northland has been given more than $376,000 from two regional tourism funds for infrastructure projects in tourist spots.
Successful applicants to the two tourism-related funds - Tourism Infrastructure Fund and Maintaining the Quality of Great Rides Fund - have been announced, with funding totalling $14.9 million.
Whangarei District and Far North District councils have received a total of $376,905 from the Tourism Infrastructure Fund for four tourism-related projects in the region.
Whangarei District Council has been given $204,000 to upgrade the Te Matau a Pohe bascule bridge carpark, which caters for visitors to the nearby Hatea Loop Walkway; $10,000 for a feasibility study to address parking capacity issues at the Whangarei Quarry Gardens and $15,000 for a feasibility study to address parking and toilet capacity issues at Abbey Caves.
The Far North District Council has received $147,905 for new toilet facilities on a freedom camping site near Kaimaumau.
