A sub-contractor abseiling on the Lemons Hill slip site on State Highway 11 had a minor fall on Sunday. NZ Transport Agency Northland system manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult said the worker was hydro-seeding on a muddy slope when he slipped and fell, landing heavily on his shoulder. He was taken to Kawakawa Hospital as a precaution and then transferred to Whangārei Hospital. Hori-Hoult said the site was closed to all work until WorkSafe completed an investigation. SH11 is open past the slip site to one-lane traffic under management.

Locals leg it
Three Aucklanders made an unusual complaint to police in Kaitaia last week - their bid to buy cannabis had gone sour. The trio said they had approached a couple of very helpful locals to ask where they might buy some cannabis. They subsequently got their hands on $50, courtesy of Eftpos, and were taken to Foley St, where the locals legged it with their money and without producing the dope. Their complaint was that they had been ripped off, but it was not clear who, if anyone, would be charged with what.
