Whangarei winner
A Lotto ticket sold in Whangarei was among nine nationally that each won more than $27,000 on Lotto Second Division in Saturday night's draw. The ticket, sold at Regent New World, won its holder $27,330.
Car set scrub alight
A car was destroyed by fire on Wainui Rd, Kaeo, on Saturday night. Northern fire communications shift manager Megan Ruru said flames spread to nearby scrub, but firefighters got the situation under control before dragging the car off the road.
The Far North District Council's communications team and Northland Civil Defence have joined forces to integrate a hazard-warning system into the council's Facebook page, which will be used to communicate important, accurate information more quickly during adverse weather events and emergencies. The app, which delivers messages directly to the Facebook page, avoiding the need for manual updating, is a version of the Red Cross Hazard App that can be downloaded to smartphones.
Woman hurt in crash
Two people were injured following a two-car crash in Kamo on Saturday morning. Emergency services were called to the crash which happened at the intersection of Station Rd and Charles St just before 9am. A female suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital.
The Far North Avocado Festival Trust is planning to reinstate Kaitaia's Santa parade this year, on Saturday, December 2, possibly leaving from the old Pak'n Save and proceeding to Te Ahu. The trust is currently gauging public and business support for the idea.
