Kerikeri top hotspot
Kerikeri was the hottest place in the country on Saturday. The thermometer in Kerikeri hit an official high of 29.9C, half a degree warmer than Christchurch, while Whangarei had an official high of 27.7C to come in at number nine. But with Whangarei's temperatures recorded at Whangarei Airport, the mercury would have hit up to 4C higher inland. Northland centres have had the highest daily temperature on at least five days this year. MetService is predicting that Waitangi Day today will see highs of 30C across Northland as about 30,000 people descend on the Bay of Islands for the annual commemorations.
